NPS: Recognition award to LatinasWIN

Bridging cultural and language barriers, LatinasWIN help Latino/Hispanic families understand and successfully navigate the education system in Norman.


Since 2011 different LatinasWIN have volunteered numerous hours to the Norman Public School system assisting Hispanic families with translation, interpretation and orientation at the beginning of the school year as well as during parent-teacher conferences. Latina members have also met with NPS officials to discuss ways in which this organization can assist NPS reach out this population.


In 2012, Dr. Millie Audas led the first District wide Orientation for Hispanic families for the Norman Public School System Orientation program. The group also participated at the Back to School programs and Parent/Teacher conferences in 2012, 2013 and 2014 translating and supporting Latino parents. One of the schools that received most of the assistance is Jackson Elementary, which has the third largest percentage of Latino children.
