Latinas Women in Norman, Latinas WIN received the Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation from the Mayor of Cleveland County, Breea Clark, last tuesday September 14th.
Yoana Walschap, current president Latinas Win, expressed gratitude for this recognition. "Thank you very much for this honor to receive the Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation on behalf of not only our group, Latinas Women in Norman, but on behalf of all the Hispanics in the City of Norman".
As a Normanite for the last 31 years, -said Yoana Walschap- I have witnessed the growth of the Hispanic population in our city. The need to include them and help them become good American citizens is, first, by recognizing their presence, their values, their culture, and their contributions. You are doing just that today.
"We the Hispanics, also have responsibilities in this process to assimilate the American culture, and that is in part the mission of our group, LATINAS WIN, that was established 10 years ago thanks to the leadership of Dr. Millie Audas, an icon in Norman and as the Major said the other day, a force in herself. She has always inspired us all".

---Our Mission is to support and aid the educational pursuits of the NPS Hispanic American students and their families, as well as extending support and encouragement to University of Oklahoma Hispanic American students and international students from Latin America. A more educated population will always lead to a better world. Education is the most powerful tool we can give to anyone. It will transform a person, a family, and entire societies.
Walschap emphasized "We have lived in Norman for many years and care a lot about our children and youth in our community. We are always trying to share our values, cultural diversity, lead by example, and trying to improve the quality of life here in Norman".
